DETROIT – Detroit police said they have arrested a man who shot a 6-year-old boy Sunday on the city's west side.
The boy, who is expected to make a full recovery, was shot in the hand and leg in a home on Rosemont Avenue near the Southfield Freeway.
"We don't get a lot of police traffic around here, and for this to happen, it's just crazy," a neighbor said.
The front window of the home is riddled with bullet holes.
"We heard (the gunshots) clear as day," the neighbor said. "'Boom, boom, boom.' Because (there were) bullet shells all out here."
Police said the incident was a case of domestic violence. A woman went to the home Sunday night for a visit, but her ex-husband showed up, too, and fired shots into the house from the outside, police said.
"I was like, 'Wow, that's bad that they're shooting up the house,'" the neighbor said. "I came outside and the police were right here."
The 44-year-old was taken into custody Monday morning.
Neighbors are feeling sad for the wounded child.
"The baby was shot twice, so I was like, 'Wow, that's bad,'" the neighbor said. "It's sad, though, that that even happened to that child for whatever may be going on with those grown people. The child shouldn't have (anything) to do with it, or (have his) life being in danger like that."
