2 boys taken to hospital after falling through ice into Shelby Township lake

Boys fall into Iroquois Lake in Shelby Township, police say

SHELBY TOWNSHIP – Two boys were taken to the hospital Tuesday after they fell through ice into a lake in Shelby Township, officials said.

The boys fell into Iroquois Lake at Iroquois Lane and Shawnee Point, officials said.

Authorities said one of the boys was in the middle of the lake in the water when they arrived. A sergeant from the Traffic Services Bureau walked onto the ice and threw the child a life ring.

While the sergeant was throwing the child the life ring, the sergeant broke through ice, as well.

Another officer arrived and found that a second child had fallen into the lake and was already on the shore.

The second officer pulled the life rope to the shore and the first officer, who was chest-high in the water, helped the boy hang on as he was pulled to safety.

The boys, both 15 years old, were taken to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital for treatment.

Local 4 has a crew on the way to the scene.
