Video shows 71-year-old Detroit woman beating attempted purse thief with her cane

Man tried to ambush woman at grocery store door

DETROIT – Detroit police are still searching for a man who tried to steal a purse Feb. 10 from a 71-year-old woman in the 8600 block of Rosa Parks Boulevard on the city's west side.

Police said the man ran ahead of the woman as she approached the entrance door of the Family Food Super Store. The man then stopped to let the woman pass and grabbed her purse.

The woman hit the man with her cane, causing him to let go of the purse. He ran away in an unknown direction.

Police are searching for a black man who is 18-25 years old, has a thin build and a medium brown complexion. He was wearing a red hat, a black hooded jacket, dark jeans and dark-colored shoes.
