Residents evacuated in Novi before barricaded gunman surrenders to police

NOVI, Mich. – Residents near 10 Mile and Haggerty roads in Novi were evacuated Thursday as Novi police responded to a barricaded gunman situation.

Police said they received a call at 9:48 a.m. Thursday about a barricaded gunman in a home in the 24000 block of Olde Orchard Street.

The 20-year-old gunman surrendered himself to police after 12:30 p.m., officials announced.

"The suspect has been talked out of the home and has just surrendered to the Novi Police. The scene is secure," Novi police said in a statement.

All residents in the immediate area were evacuated or sheltered in place.

Novi police asked drivers to avoid the area, but the roads have since reopened.
