Detroit man charged in fatal beating at community home

DETROIT – A Detroit man is facing murder charges in connection with a homicide at a halfway house on Detroit’s west side.

Antonio Otis Stone, 44, is charged with first-degree murder.

Police named Stone as a person of interest Sunday night. Larry Dale Neville, 49, of Detroit, was found dead earlier that day.

According to police, Neville arrived Saturday night at the Unified Minds Project in the 7300 block of Dexter Street with a friend, looking for shelter.

The house is what some call a “community home,” where those living on the streets can escape the cold temperatures.

It is alleged that Neville was fatally beaten by Stone. Neville was found lying on the floor of an upstairs bedroom. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stone was previously charged with attempted murder and felon in possession of a weapon in 2016 from a case in 2010. The case was eventually dismissed.

Stone was arraigned Thursday and is due back in court March 15.
