DPD officer receives minor injuries when car driven by alleged drug dealer takes off

DETROIT – A Detroit police officer was injured slightly Saturday when a car took off during an undercover drug sting operation.

During routine surveillance in the area of St. Fair Avenue and Coventry Street in Detroit, an undercover officer was approached by a suspect who, police said, was attempting to sell drugs from his vehicle.

As the officer approached the driver's side door, the suspect sped off. The officer pushed himself away from the car when it took off and fell down as a result.

A vehicle pursuit began and the suspect was eventually arrested in a parking lot, police said.

The officer was treated for minor injuries.

Police said they found a plastic bag containing 50 rocks of crack cocaine in the suspect's vehicle.
