Glencetta Gloster-Washington charged with first-degree murder

DETROIT – A woman has been charged in the death of her newborn daughter after police found the baby girl inside a garbage bag container, according to investigators

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged 39-year-old Glencetta Gloster-Washington with murder in connection with the newborn's death.

Police said Gloster-Washington allegedly gave birth to the baby girl at her home in the 3500 block of Yorkshire in Detroit on Sunday. Family members of Gloster-Washington discovered her bleeding and took her to a hospital for treatment.

Hospital staff determined that the woman recently gave birth, but did not have a baby with her.

Police went to Gloster-Washington's home where they discovered the remains of the newborn in the garbage can.

Gloster-Washington has been charged with first-degree murder and concealing the death of an individual.

She is expected to be arraigned Saturday.
