Suspected drunken driver leaving Tigers game causes fatal crash in Armada Township

ARMADA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Gould City man has died after colliding with another vehicle allegedly driven by a drunken driver who had attended the opening game for the Detroit Tigers Friday.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. on Capac and Pratt roads in Armada Township.

Michigan State Police said a 33-year-old man was driving north on Capac Road when he crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a black SUV driven by James Jay Frankina.

Frankina was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The 33-year-old driver and his wife were also taken to the hospital and are said to be listed in good condition.

Police believe the driver who caused the crash was drinking alcohol while attending the opening game for the Detroit Tigers and he may have been under the influence at the time of the crash.

Investigations are ongoing.
