BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Bloomfield Township police responded Monday to a home in the 3000 block of Middlebury Lane after a man said his dog found a human bone.

The man said he let his dog out in the backyard that evening, and when the dog returned, it was carrying a bone.

The man though it looked like a bona fide human knee bone, so he called police.

An officer took custody of the bone and took it to the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office. We'll make no bones about it, officials said it came from a ham.

Sherlock Bones was called in to search the area, but nothing else was found.

There are no bones to pick with the dog owner, who was only trying to do the right thing. He wasn't trying to be a ham, but the discovery did turn out to be pretty humerus.
