Former animal control building in Detroit demolished to make room for Riverside Park expansion

DETROIT – The former Animal Control Building was demolished Monday to expand Riverside Park.

Crews began demolishing the center at 10 a.m.

The 3-acre site is expected to become part of Riverside Park, which is undergoing an expansion and renovation.

A portion of the site is supposed to become a new dog park.

Last fall, work was completed on a softball diamond, and this year work is planned for a new soccer field, playground, basketball court, skate park, picnic shelter, amphitheater and sledding hill.
