7-year-old girl shot on Detroit's west side remains in critical condition

Man who threatened to shoot up house still on loose, police say

DETROIT – A 7-year-old girl who was shot in the neck Monday night on Detroit’s west side remains hospitalized in critical condition.

According to police, the girl’s condition has improved, but it hasn’t been upgraded.

The girl was asleep on a couch with her grandmother at a home in the 2900 block of Monterey Street around 11:15 p.m. when shots were fired. There is a bullet hole in the front window of the home from the shooting.

Police said they have a possible suspect who they say threatened to shoot up the house, but he remains on the loose.

Authorities said a police chase Tuesday morning that ended with a crash was not related to the shooting.
