Driver flees scene after running over bicyclist on Detroit's east side

64-year-old man hit by car while riding bike with grandson

DETROIT – A driver fled a crash scene Tuesday on Detroit's east side after running over a 64-year-old man, police said.

The incident happened at Van Dyke and Gratiot Avenue on Detroit's east side. The 64-year-old man was riding on his bike with his grandson when he was hit by the car, officials said.

Firefighters were seen putting the man on a stretcher as he lay in the middle of the street on Van Dyke.

The car was driving north on Van Dyke when it struck the man and continued toward I-94, officials said.

Police went into a nearby gas station to try to obtain surveillance video of the incident.
