Edwin Padija killed in Detroit crash

DETROIT – A 38-year-old man was killed Sunday in a motorcycle crash on Fort Street near Omaha Street on Detroit's southwest side.

It was a Mother's Day tragedy for the Lincoln Park family. They said they were watching Local 4 News this weekend when they learned a man was killed in a motorcycle crash. They soon realized it was their loved one who was killed.

Edwin Padija's mother was heartbroken Sunday when she learned her son was killed in the crash. He was riding his motorcycle on Fort Street when his bike collided with an SUV near Omaha Street, police said.

Padija was thrown from the motorcycle and died, police said.

Padija's wife said her husband spent the day at home with his 8-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son. Around 6 p.m. Saturday, Padija left for a barbecue with friends in Detroit. On his way back home a few hours later, he was killed in the crash.

His mother said she received flowers at her home on Sunday, which were Padija's gift sent to her for Mother's Day.

You can hear from the family in the video posted above.
