VIDEO: Woman runs over officer's foot after trying to drive around crash scene in Detroit

Driver arrested after injuring police officer

DETROIT – A woman was arrested Monday after Detroit police said she ran over an officer while trying to drive around a closed off area while police investigated a crash.

Police were investigating a collision between a motorcycle and a semi truck, and they were blocking traffic on Jefferson Avenue at West End Street.

A driver in a white pickup truck wanted to go around the road block, and a police officer told her to stop and turn around. That's when she started driving toward him. He put his hand on his weapon as he continued to tell her to stop.

The officer's partner got involved and the driver did a full U-turn in the roadway, knocking down a railroad crossing sign with both officers standing right next to her truck.

She took off in the opposite direction on Jefferson Avenue, where she was taken into custody a few miles away from the scene.

The injured officer had her foot run over. She was put on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital by an ambulance.

Police said the motorcyclist in the original incident was transported in serious condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
