22-year-old Illinois man found after running from friends at Coney Island in Detroit

DETROIT – Detroit police said a missing 22-year-old old man was found after running away from his friends at a Coney Island.

Sammy Elaasar is considered a "serious missing" person after his friends said he ran away from them around 3:50 p.m. Monday at the Coney Island near Woodward Avenue and Cadillac Square. Elaasar is visiting Detroit from Palatine, Illinois.

Elaasar's friends said he was getting food with them when he ran away from the restaurant. They tried to find him on Michigan Avenue, but lost sight of him.

Elaasar is in good physical condition, but suffers from mental illness and might not have taken his medicine, police said.

Police describe Elaasar as 5 feet 7 inches tall with a skinny build, black hair and a light beard. He was last seen wearing a blue button-up floral shirt, black jeans and black shoes.
