Gas leak in Grosse Pointe Woods prompts brief evacuation; gas line capped

GROSSE POINTE WOODS, Mich. – A gas leak prompted evacuations Tuesday in Grosse Pointe Woods.

The leak happened in the area of Morningside Drive and Vernier Road.

The gas line was capped and residents are back in their homes.

Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety released the following statement:

"The gas leak has been capped and residents can return home. Morningside Dr. will remain closed between Vernier and Hidden Ln. for an undisclosed amount of time as crews continue to make repairs. Grosse Pointe North lock down has also been lifted."

A gas leak at the same location occurred May 9, also prompting evacuations of homes in the area and closed several roads.

On April 27, evacuations were ordered in the area of Mack Avenue, between Manchester Boulevard and Stanhope Street.
