Shots fired at woman during attempted carjacking on Detroit's west side

DETROIT – A woman was shot at during an attempted carjacking Wednesday morning outside a nursing home on Detroit’s west side.

The woman was picking up a family member at about 9:30 a.m. near Grand River Avenue and Dundee Street when a man approached her with a gun.

Police said the man tapped on the window with the gun and the woman put the vehicle in gear. As she pulled off, the man fired four to five shots.

The woman drove to the 10th Precinct for help and EMS took her to hospital. It is unclear if the woman was shot or injured by broken glass.

Police said the man was described as black with a medium complexion, in his 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs about 140 pounds and has a goatee. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and a black baseball cap.

A getaway driver may have been driving a blue Ford Focus.
