DETROIT – Detroit's unemployment rate in April was the lowest in 16 years for the city.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the unemployment rate in Detroit last month was 8.4 percent, which was down from 12.3 percent in January.
It's the lowest since May of 2001, when the rate was 8.3 percent.

Michigan's overall unemployment rate dropped to 4.7 percent in April, down from 5.0 percent in March.
Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Bay City, Warren and Dearborn/Livonia also saw drops in unemployment in April.
