Firefighters from Plymouth Township, Plymouth Northville Township and Canton Township are all at the scene of the fire.
They said a tree fell around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and was leaning on a wire. Employees looked at it and left for the day, but it's not known if they made a report.
In the evening, the tree stressed the wires enough that there were sparks, which lit the grass on fire. A deck at the rear of a nearby building caught fire, and the building eventually caught fire.
Half of the building was completely destroyed by the fire.
There were no injuries.
Residents in the southwestern part of Plymouth Township might experience smoke from the fire due to the wind, officials said.
