Community comes together to support teen severely injured while helping crash victim

Shawn English lost part of his right leg

NORTHVILLE, Mich. – Local high school cross country teams ran Sunday to help raise funds for a 16-year-old who was severely injured while helping car crash victims.

Sean English and his parents had gotten out of their car to help a car full of teens that had flipped April 2 on I-96. English was hit by a car and lost part of his right leg. Another driver, Dr. Cynthia Ray, was killed while trying to help.

English is now in the process of getting a prosthetic leg, and has the support of a community backing him.

“It’s amazing,” English said. “I can’t put into words how many times how many times I’ve needed to hear, ‘Hey keep going, keep it up.’”

Fellow runners participated in the Sean English Unity Run to help English get his prosthetic leg. Read more about his journey to get the prosthetic leg here.

“Today was about getting the community together and for us to say thank you,” English’s father said. “My goal is to get him a prosthetic that allows him to run.”
