Man jumps from 2nd floor of burning home near Joy Road, Livernois in Detroit

Arson investigation underway

DETROIT – A man jumped from the 2nd floor of a burning home Friday morning near Joy Road and Livernois in Detroit.

Fire officials believe the home may have been fire bombed about 3:15 a.m. The fire quickly spread from the first floor.

The only person who was in the home became trapped on the 2nd floor. A neighbor who had just returned from work saw the flames and tried to douse them with a garden hose. Then the neighbor spotted the man sitting on the edge of the window. The neighbor coaxed the man to jump.

"I had seen him dangling from the window, and I helped him get out. Then I called 911," said the neighbor.

The man who jumped may have suffered a broken leg.

Detroit police and arson investigators were at the home Friday morning.
