BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A motorcyclist was seriously injured Monday in Brighton Township when he hit a semitruck while merging onto I-96.

Police said the man failed to yield to the semi, which was traveling eastbound on I-96 near Kensington Road at noon.
The motorcyclist, a 52-year-old Elmira man, was ejected from his 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he hit the trailer of the semitruck, which was being driven by a 65-year-old man from Ohio.
The motorcyclist was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash, which remains under investigation. It is not known if the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
