Man accused of killing cat with hammer in Rochester Hills

David Hu charged with animal cruelty

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – A man was arraigned on charges of animal cruelty after he allegedly killed his roommate’s cat with a hammer in Rochester Hills.

David Hu, 33, is charged with one count of animal cruelty.

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 700 block of Machette Court on Wednesday where a man said his roommate was hitting his cat in the head with a hammer.

The roommate told deputies he tried to stop his roommate but was pushed back.

Deputies found Hu in his bedroom with the dead cat at his feet and a bloody hammer nearby.

During an interview with detectives, Hu said he was angry with the cat because it bit and scratched him several times, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. He allegedly said he "felt pain and let out his anger."

Hu’s bond was set at $100,000.

Hu has a prior conviction out of Madison Heights for interfering in a police investigation.
