DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – An elderly woman was tied up in her own home Wednesday by a man who broke into her Dearborn Heights house and demanded money.

Dearborn Heights police said the man walked into the woman's home around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday -- near Van Buren Road and Colonial Street -- through an unlocked front door.

The man grabbed the elderly woman by the throat and demanded money, police said. He got a cellphone and less than $100 in cash.

While inside the home, the man told the woman he wouldn't rape her because he is HIV positive. He tied her up inside the home before escaping, police said.

The man is believed to be in his 30s and has a lazy left eye. He was last seen wearing a Detroit Tigers T-shirt and dark pants.

Police said his gray or silver Dodge Durango was last seen in the area of Telegraph and Joy roads.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dearborn Heights Police Department at 313-277-6770.
