Eastern Michigan University to open Amazon pickup location
YPSILANTI, Mich. – A new Amazon pickup location will be opening on Eastern Michigan University's Ypsilanti Campus.
The university announced in a news release this week that it will be the first Michigan university to team up with Amazon to offer a fully-staffed pickup location.
The pickup location will be located next to the EMU bookstore. It will occupy 3,250 square feet of the current bookstore space.
“This is an exciting project that will further enhance the Eastern Michigan campus and our services to students, faculty and staff,” said Chief Financial Officer Michael Valdes, in a news release. “Having one of the world’s most recognized and popular brands on our campus, while offering a valuable and helpful service to our campus community, is a win-win for everyone involved."
Students, faculty and staff at the university will have the convenience of picking-up orders placed through Amazon right on campus. Amazon Prime and Prime Student members also will receive expedited shipping benefits, including free same-day or free one-day pickup on millions of items when shipped to the pickup location.
The EMU Board of Regents approved the project back in April. Construction is underway and expected to be completed this fall.
