Man robs, ties up 70-year-old woman in Dearborn Heights home

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – Neighbors are fearful after a 70-year-old woman was tied up and robbed in her Dearborn Heights home in the middle of the day Wednesday.

Police said the woman was making lunch when a man walked into her home near Van Buren Road and Colonial Street around 11:50 a.m. through an unlocked front door.

He got a cellphone and less than $100 in cash from the home.

While the man ransacked the woman’s house, she begged for him not to rape her. He told her he wasn’t doing to rape her because he was HIV positive.

He tied her up before leaving.

“I usually leave my front door open with the screen locked, but from now on, I’ll be closing the front door,” neighbor Grover McCaslin said.

The man is black. He is believed to be in his 30s and has a lazy left eye. He was last seen wearing a Detroit Tigers T-shirt and dark pants.

Police said his gray or silver Dodge Durango was last seen in the area of Telegraph and Joy roads.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 313-277-6770.
