Back-to-school event prepares 500 Detroit children for classes

DETROIT – An annual back-to-school event hosted Sunday by the National Council of Jewish Women Greater Detroit Section prepared 500 children for their return to the classroom.

The event, held at Munger Elementary School, is an annual pop-up shop where students and their parents can get items they'll need for school, such as new shirts.

The families who attended were selected by social service agencies.

"I want to say thank you so much," Alan Valdivia, 9, said. "I appreciate that they do this every year."
