Man taken to hospital in critical condition

A man was shot multiple times and his girlfriend was grazed by a bullet while driving on Detroit's west side on Aug. 22, 2017. (WDIV)

DETROIT – A 29-year-old man was seriously hurt Tuesday when he was shot multiple times while driving on Detroit's west side.

Police said the man was driving with his girlfriend in the area of Grand River and Steel avenues when someone started firing shots into the car.

The man was hit multiple times, police said, adding that his girlfriend was able to run away.

The man drove his car to the Second Precinct at 13530 Lesure Street and began honking his horn outside. Officers came out to help and drove him to the hospital.

He is in critical condition, police said.

The man's girlfriend showed up at the hospital with a minor graze wound, police said.

Police arrested the suspected shooter nearby on Appoline Street.
