WARREN, Mich. – Police believe an 8-month-old baby who died Thursday in Warren drowned.
The baby boy died at Warren Manor Apartments.
Police said the mother of the baby is in custody after coming to the police station voluntarily for questioning. She has been cooperative with police, but she changed her story several times, police said.
Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer said the mother initially said the baby had choked on cookies and milk. She then told police she was the putting water on the baby’s head while bathing him and he became unresponsive.
He was found next to the bathtub, police said.
“Perhaps the mother left for a moment, the infant in the bathtub, and the infant drowned,” Dwyer said.
Police are waiting for official autopsy results.
The mother’s name will not be released until she is charged. Police believe she will be arraigned Monday.
