Drunken driver runs red light, collides with Macomb County sheriff's deputy

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 27-year-old woman, who police say was drunk, crashed into a Macomb County sheriff's deputy early Saturday when she ran a red light in Washington Township.

Police said the deputy, a 17-year-veteran, was traveling south on Van Dyke at 12:54 a.m. when he hit a 2010 Ford Edge that went through a red light while heading west on 29 Mile Road.

The deputy was transported to Troy Beaumont Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The two people in the Edge weren't injured.

The driver, a Sterling Heights woman, was taken into custody. Police said she blew 0.12 on a Data Master Breath Test.
