WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Two longtime co-workers from Wayne County are splitting a $1 million Powerball from the Michigan Lottery after they missed out on the $760 million jackpot by one digit.

The two-member B-Squared Lottery Club won the $1 million prize after matching the five white balls drawn Aug. 23: 06-07-16-23-26.

They bought the winning ticket at the Melvindale Liquor Market, located at 17973 Allen Road in Melvindale.

While they were happy to win $1 million, the co-workers missed winning a share of the $760 million Powerball jackpot by one digit. Their ticket had 03 for the Powerball and the number 04 was drawn.

"A group of us at work have typically played the Lottery when jackpots get into the hundreds of millions," said the club's representative. "We asked around during this last Powerball jackpot and no one seemed interested, so the two of us bought a bunch of tickets.

"I saw the numbers flash across the bottom of the news and then started checking our tickets. When I saw we'd matched five numbers, I ran and woke my wife up to tell her what we’d won. The next morning, the first call I made was my co-worker to tell him the good news. For a minute, we thought about what might have been if we'd had a 04 instead of a 03, but we're still thrilled to have won $1 million."

The B-Squared Lottery Club members visited Lottery headquarters on Tuesday to claim their big prize. Each member plans to save their big winnings for a rainy day.

"It's a good feeling to know that people really do win playing the Lottery," the club's representative said.
