BODYCAM: Man fatally shot after charging at officer with baseball bat in Indiana

Police in Evansville, Indiana have released bodycam and surveillance video of an officer-involved shooting Tuesday that left one man dead.

The footage shows a man, identified as 55-year-old Ricky Ard, walking towards the main entrance of the Evansville Federal Building holding a baseball bat. An officer approaches Ard, pointing what appears to be a stun gun and shouting for him to put the bat down.

Authorities said the stun gun was used, but Ard continued to act aggressively.

The footage shows Ard charge at the officer with the baseball bat.The officer then draws his gun and fatally shoots Ard.

Separate surveillance video shows Ard arriving earlier Tuesday morning and smashing glass on the front doors of the federal building.

According to WFIE, Ard died at the scene.

A federal worker at the building recognized Ard from an incident Monday that resulted in Ard being escorted out of the building by authorities.

Officer Kenny Dutchke, who fired the shots, has worked for the Evansville Police Department for 11 years and is trained in crisis intervention.

Police said the officer did not violate policy or Indiana law, and that he shot Ard to protect himself.
