CANTON, Mich. – A former pastor of Resurrection Parish in Canton has been charged after he allegedly stole money and items from the church.

Father Eugene Katcher, 71, faces three counts of larceny in a building charges.

According to the Archdiocese of Detroit, an investigation began in the spring after allegations were made against Katcher.

Katcher retired from the church in July, as he was previously scheduled to do.

He has been restricted from public ministry, and he may not celebrate Mass or the sacraments in a church setting, may not wear a Roman collar or present himself as a priest, and he is not allowed on parish property at Resurrection.

Katcher is due in court for a probable cause conference on Sept. 8 and a preliminary examination on Sept. 15. He received a personal bond.
