Dashcam video released of chase of stolen Romulus police SUV into Detroit

ROMULUS, Mich. – Police released the dashcam footage of a pursuit of a Romulus police SUV that was stolen while officers arrested a man following a foot chase.

According to police, officers saw two men at about 12:40 a.m. on Sept.1 attempting to steal a utility trailer from the parking lot of a hotel in the 31000 block of Flynn Drive.

As officers approached, the men fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, a 32-year-old Detroit resident was taken into custody, police said. The second man eluded the officers, according to police.

When the officers returned to the police cruiser with the man in custody, someone was seen entering their marked patrol car and driving away. Responding units watched as the vehicle pulled away from the scene, police said.

The patrol car was followed to the area of Michigan and Livernois avenues in Detroit, police said, where the driver stopped the cruiser and fled on foot.

Officers secured the vehicle and inventoried the contents. No property was taken from the police car.

A stolen vehicle, which was taken from Van Buren Township, was located at the original scene.
