ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A 20-year-old Eastpointe man is due in court Wednesday on murder charges in connection with a deadly shooting at a graduation party in Roseville.

Amer Mongogna faces several charges including murder in the second degree, felony firearm, assault with intent to murder, felony firearm weapons violation, and carrying a concealed weapon. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

Luke Filary, 18, of Clinton Township, was shot and killed at his cousin's graduation party Aug. 6. Mongogna was taken into custody hours after the shooting. 

Police said a handgun believed to have been used in the incident was recovered from a home in St. Clair Shores.

The graduation party was held at a home near 12 Mile and Hayes roads.

Mongogna was taken into custody hours after the shooting. He was arraigned Aug. 9 and is held with out bond.

Preliminary hearing gets underway

The first witness to take the stand was David Underwood. He was present at the graduation party.

Underwood was among four people asked to leave the party after they were involved in an argument. He said they returned a while later with intentions to fight.

He told the court he saw Mongogna fire shots.

Underwood said Mongogna ran from the scene.

The judge then ordered that the case not be live streamed.
