Detroit families traveling to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria devastates island

DETROIT – Some Metro Detroit residents with family in Puerto Rico are traveling to the island after it was battered by Hurricane Maria.

More than a million people in Puerto Rico are without electricity or phone service, and many here in Michigan have not had contact with their families since the hurricane hit.

One family is hauling 1,500 pounds worth of supplies to family members on the island.
