10th annual walk in Sterling Heights honors domestic violence murder victim Tara Grant

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – The 10th annual Tara's Walk was held Saturday at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights.

The walk has raised tens of thousands of dollars for domestic abuse programs.

Tara Grant was killed by her husband, Stephen. He reported her missing on Valentine's Day 10 years ago. Weeks later, her body was found dismembered in the garage of the couple's Washington Township garage and in Stony Creek Metropark.

"It warms my heart that so many people still remember what happened to my sister all that time ago," Alicia Standerfer said.

Standerfer and her husband adopted Tara's children, Lindsey and Ian.

Lindsey said the walk means the world to her.

"It's been very important to me over the years," she said.

The money raised from the walk will go to the Tara Grant Liberation Fund, which helps victims of domestic violence escape abusive relationships.
