Police release sketch of attempted child abductor in Redford Township

13-year-old boy says driver grabbed him on way to school

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police released a sketch Friday afternoon of a man wanted for allegedly assaulting a Redford Township middle school student and trying to pull him into a car on his way to school.

The 13-year-old boy said he was walking to Hilbert Middle School on Thursday when a blue car pulled up to him on Kinloch Street south of Grove Street near Beech Daly and 6 Mile roads.

A man inside the car asked him, "Do you want a ride?"

When the student said he didn't want a ride, the man got out of the car and grabbed the boy's wrist, police said. The student said he pulled away and ran to school.

The Redford Police Department is searching for a white man in his 40s. He is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall with a medium build and gray beard. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black hat.

The man was driving a blue four-door car. The vehicle may have front-end damage and black rims.

Police are hoping residents who live in the neighborhood southwest of Beech Daly and 6 Mile roads have surveillance video that can help in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Redford Police Department at 313-387-2555.
