DETROIT – An SUV’s tire flew off and into oncoming traffic Thursday night causing damage to an ambulance and a police cruiser on I-94 in Detroit.

The incident happened at about 9 p.m. on I-94 near Mt. Elliot Street.

According to police, a Dodge Durango was heading eastbound on I-94 when a tire flew off and struck an ambulance and a police cruiser causing damage to the windshields.

The driver of the Durango managed to pull off the freeway and called a tow company. Police said the woman noticed the commotion across the median but didn’t realize it was her tire that caused the crash until she later saw media reports.

The woman later contacted Michigan State Police and gave a full confession, according to authorities.
