Salvation Army to offer assistance to Detroit families

Michigan residents may qualify for food, toys and gift cards

DETROIT – The Salvation Army is accepting applications for holiday assistance from families of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties.

Assistance for families up to six includes a box of non-perishable food to prepare a holiday meal and a grocery gift card to purchase fresh foods at. Larger families are eligible for more assistance, those with children up to age 14 may also receive toys, and senior citizens will receive grocery store gift cards.

Applicants must provide proof of all members living in the household. Adults must provide a form of identification -- which can include a driver’s license or state ID -- and proof that they live in the zip code served by the corps at which they are applying (such as a recent utility bill or rent lease). Proof of names and ages for all children is required via report card or other documentation such as a birth certificate.
