DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – A suspicious package sparked the possibility of threats against houses of worship across Michigan and the FBI has joined the investigation.
The package was found Nov. 13 in a Dearborn Heights yard, containing an unloaded handgun and a map with multiple addresses circled with the word “target” written on it.
Authorities said the list of addresses included multiple religious locations, including the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids and the Masjid Bilal in Canton.
The FBI conducted interviews and said all recovered evidence and investigative leads suggest the “possibility of a civil dispute between parties in southeast Michigan.”
Authorities say there are “no known threats that have been assessed as credible at this time, to any churches or houses of worship involved in the incident.”

The threat prompted the church in Grand Rapids to close for a day last week.
