Floats get finishing touches ahead of America's Thanksgiving Parade in Downtown Detroit

Woodward Avenue lined with floats ahead of Thanksgiving

DETROIT – With just a few hours left until America's Thanksgiving Parade, the floats were lined up along Woodward Avenue as the finishing touches were added.

Residents who wait all year to see the floats say coming to Downtown Detroit the night before the big event is a tradition.

"We go on this daddy-daughter date to see the floats so we don't have to wake up early tomorrow," Taylor Dixon said.

"We used to come down as kids, and then as close as we got is the curb," said Chuck Rousos, who was there with his wife. "We thought it would be fun to come down."

They won't get the same up-close and personal view Thursday as thousands descend on Woodward Avenue. Of the 24 floats, six are new, including the Art Van float called "Dinosaurs on Parade" and the Lear Corp.'s "Connecting the Spirit of Detroit to the World."

On Thursday, Detroiters will be treated to bands, big heads and, of course, Santa.

Local 4 will get you set for America's Thanksgiving Parade starting at 6 a.m. Thursday with a Thanksgiving edition of Local 4 News Today.

The parade preview begins at 8 a.m., followed by the parade at 9 a.m., all on Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit.
