Reno gunman killed after shooting at apartment complex

At least one person injured during shooting

RENO, Nevada – The gunman in a Reno apartment hostage situation has died after bring shot by police, according to reports by the Washington Post, KOLO and the Reno Gazette Journal.

Police say the man was barricaded with a hostage in an eighth-floor apartment inside the Montage condominium complex in downtown Reno.

Shots were fired by the suspect from an elevated position within the condo. The suspect was shot by police and died on the way to a hospital. Police have not released the suspect’s name. The intended target of the shooter was not known.

Police say the hostage is now safe and uninjured. It's not clear what the relationship was between the suspect and the hostage.

The only other injury reported is a hand injury; it's not clear who that person is or what the nature of the injury is, but police say it is not serious.

During the incident, authorities evacuated the building and shut down much of downtown Reno.

Trooper Chris Kelley with the Nevada Highway Patrol said the gunfire lasted for about 20 minutes.
