Detroit police are searching for a person of interest in connection with a fatal shooting. (WDIV)

DETROIT – Detroit police are searching for a person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man in Southwest Detroit.

Police said the man was shot around 8 p.m. Friday in the 8700 block of Vernor Avenue.

"The victim pulled over to the curb. Our suspect exited his vehicle, approached our victim. They exchanged words through the car," Police Capt. Darin Szilagy said.

Szilagy said the victim got out of his car and was shot multiple times.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials said the suspected shooter was driving a blue Chevy Impala and fled the scene.

Investigators believe the person of interest might have information about the crime.
