Attorney discusses criminal charges against officers as civil lawsuits loom in Detroit incidents

DETROIT – An attorney with the Fieger Law Firm held a news conference Wednesday afternoon following the announcement of charges against police officers in two cases his firm is handling.

Fieger's firm is representing David Bivins and the family of Damon Grimes.

Bivins was violently arrested at a Meijer store on Detroit’s east side after he was falsely accused of stealing.

Officer Lonnie Wade was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm, felonious assault and two counts of misconduct in office.

Grimes was killed during a pursuit while driving an ATV in Detroit when a Michigan State Police trooper deployed a Taser.

Former Trooper Mark Bessner was charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the Grimes’ death.
