BODYCAM: Florida officer dragged by high-speed vehicle while responding to overdose call

Dramatic bodycam footage from Pembroke Pines, Florida shows the moment an officer was dragged while hanging onto the door of a fleeing vehicle, which led to a high-speed chase. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon, according to the video's timestamp.

The footage shows officer Jon Cusack approach a vehicle with two people inside. He was responding to a call regarding possible overdose victims.

When Cusack attempts to open the door, the driver takes off. Cusack manages to swing the door open, and he hangs on as the vehicle speeds down the road. The car's speedometer can be seen reaching more than 60 mph. At one point, the driver swerves into the median.

Cusack is dragged for over 20 seconds before he falls.

According to WTVJ, other officers pursued the suspect's vehicle in a high-speed chase that reached speeds over 100 mph.

The vehicle eventually stopped and two suspects were taken into custody.

Thomas Cabrera was charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. A police report said Cabrera told officers he and his fiance were doing cocaine and heroin.

Cusack suffered injuries that will require surgery. He is a 19-year veteran of the police force.
