Westland woman killed, 3 hurt in head-on collision involving SUV, FedEx truck on Wayne Road

WESTLAND, Mich. – Wayne Road has reopened between Ford and Stacy roads in Westland after a deadly crash, officials said.

Investigators were at the scene around 9:15 a.m. Thursday after a head-on collision involving an SUV and a FedEx truck.

A 56-year-old Westland woman was killed in the crash. Police said she was a passenger in one of the vehicles. Medical officials tried to perform CPR, but she was pronounced dead at the hospital after being transported by Westland firefighters.

Two people from the SUV and the driver of the FedEx truck were also injured, officials said. The 62-year-old Detroit man driving the SUV is in serious condition. A 51-year-old Westland woman who was also a passenger is in stable condition, officials said.

The driver of the FedEx truck is a 51-year-old Westland woman. She is being examined for what are believed to be minor injuries, officials said.

The road was closed for more than an hour as police investigated the crash.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been a factor in the crash.

Westland officials are still investigating the incident.
