Help Me Hank: New airbag recall 🚗, health department scam 📱, big furniture deal 🛋️

If you weren't in the full swing of work, bringing the kids to school, grocery shopping, etc. -- you probably are now!

I finally feel like I’m getting everything together and back to real life after such a nice holiday. There’s a lot going on, but what’s really got MY attention is this government shutdown.

We’ve got thousands of federal workers here in Metro Detroit. I can’t fathom how tough this is for them to now be without a paycheck for so long. They’ve chosen a career that serves us, the people -- and now they’re stuck in a mess that they can’t control. And you know what, that’s a reality for thousands of people in Metro-Detroit. There are thousands of people who work paycheck-to-paycheck making ends meet and they’re not just Federal workers. This is a reality for a lot of people and it breaks my heart.

I want to help. I will be talking to experts on tips and information that can help people in these situations. Look for “Help Me Hank’s Shutdown Survival Guide”, coming next week!

Have a great winter weekend, stay warm! (If you want something fun to do -- the Plymouth Ice Fest is happening and it’s always fun!)

 Recall of the Week

Fiat Chrysler announced a massive recall of 1.6 million vehicles in the U.S. due to potentially dangerous Takata airbag inflators.

The recall includes vehicles like; the Jeep Wrangler (2010-2016), the Dodge Challenger (2010-2014), and the Dodge Charger (2011-2015).

 Scam of the Week

The Macomb County Health Department and the Genesee County Health Department both are sending out a scam warning involving their name.

Scammers are using their phone numbers in what’s called a spoofing phone scam. They’ll call you pretending to be from the department to get Medicare, personal, and financial information. Don’t fall for it! Hang up!

If the actual department does call you, they will leave a message. No patient information has been stolen.

 Deal of the Week

Art Van is holding its Semi-Annual sale this weekend.

You can save up to 65 percent off on furniture and there’s deals on mattresses as well.

 Stories of the Week

Fast food is convenient, fast, and cheap -- but what if you still want to be healthy while picking up a quick meal?

The state is now investigating a grocery store that we found serving bad meat.

Scammers are calling, threatening your social security number.
