State troopers chase vehicle at 100 mph on Southfield Freeway

Driver stopped in Oak Park

OAK PARK, Mich. – Michigan State Police troopers used a PIT maneuver to stop a fleeing vehicle early Thursday morning in Oak Park.

Police said the chase started on the Southfield Freeway (M-39) near Outer Driver in Allen Park after troopers tried to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation about 12:05 a.m. Police said a female passenger jumped out of the vehicle.

Speeds reached 100 mph as troopers pursued the vehicle to 11 Mile Road and Greendfield Road in Oak Park. Dearborn police stopped to check on the female passenger who told officers she jumped out of the vehicle when the driver refused to stop.

The suspect eventually was stopped when police used the PIT maneuver in Oak Park. Video shows the suspect's vehicle damaged. It's a silver 4-door Pontiac.

The man was suffering from a mental health issue, police said. He was transported for medical treatment.
