Man dead following standoff with Ferndale police

FERNDALE, Mich. – After more than 4 hours of negotiations, a police standoff in Ferndale came to an end.

Officers entered an apartment on Withington Street early Wednesday morning to find a suspected gunman dead.

Late Tuesday, tenants were evacuated from a senior complex after a resident opened fire at the Withington West Elderly Apartments. Police said the suspect fired off several rounds with a handgun.

Police believe the suspect, a man in his seventies, was under the influence of a narcotic.

Resdients of the apartment complex were allowed back into their homes.
